People of Stavelot, to your windows!
The 2011 edition of the 24 Hour VW Fun Cup as announced will be exceptional in several regards, notably because of the activities kicking off the festival on Thursday evening with the parade of the VW Fun Cup in the town of Stavelot. The "promenade" is obligatory because the technical security control will be on the esplanade of the abbey. The cars will leave the circuit at 17.35 in convoy, under a good police guard, in the direction of Blanchimont (by the interior!), then from Stavelot they will park, following instructions, on Place Saint-Remacle. Then, the VW Fun Cup will depart one by one towards the esplanade of the abbey where an activity with sound effects and DJ will be orchestrated by Radio Contact, who will also invest by running a promotional campaign on radio in the hopes of attracting a crowd. The teams and their sponsors will be presented by our usual presenters and a few minutes later, the cars will be taken in charge by the technical controllers of RACB (Royal Automobile Club of Belgium) for an obligatory security check. After that, they will go to Place Saint-Remacle where the Municipal Sports and Tourism Department will offer a glass of welcome and friendship. The return to the paddock, still in convoy, is scheduled for approximately 19.30.
This parade constitutes a wonderful opportunity to make the VW Fun Cup better known: "Without the help and assistance of the Burgomaster, Thierry de Bournonville, of the city and of the police of Stavelot, none of this would have been possible", is emphasised at SpeedWorld. "Why Stavelot ? Because it is a first, because the town and its representatives love motor sport, and finally because the circuit is in the district of Stavelot !"
