Classic, chic and absolutely gorgeous
The team from France of the Spa Classic meeting May, 25, 26 and 27, needs no introduction. It criss-crosses Europe to offer all classic cars enthusiasts the possibility of discovering the wonderful tracks of the legend, with their top rendezvous of the year in the Sarthe on the legendary 14 kilometre racetrack and the 24 Hours Classic. Francorchamps is the ideal place to prepare for the French summer meeting like it was for the WEC on the first weekend in May. Would it be possible to envisage a Franco-Walloon twinning some day?
While awaiting the Sarthe experience, hundreds of committed drivers will have to overcome another myth of motor sport: Francorchamps, the most beautiful Circuit in the world, is in the DNA of classic cars..
It’s thus with pride and honour that the Group C prototypes from 1966 to 1972, and the legendary Porsches 917and 935, the Mercedes C11, the Peugeot 905, Nissan, Lola…, the Gran-Turismos (GTs) from 1966 to 1974, the GTs from 1975 to 1979, the F1s from 1966 to 1985, will find once again the most beautiful surroundings of their youthful spins.
Talking about surroundings, it’s also worthwhile knowing that the Spa Classic concept is tailored to offer a complete spectacle.
While the Group C, Formula 1: the Williams, Arrows, McLaren, Ensign, Brabham, Fittipaldi, and the F2s, as well as the Classic Endurance Racing are housed in our luxurious pit building stands, the majority of these superb racing cars from another era will be on show sheltered under little arbours all over the paddock.
So, you will be able to cast a caressing look over the GT 40, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Lotus, Iso Ferrari, BMW, Ford and lots of other famous classic brands from the 60s, 70s and 80s.
Children will enjoy playing at being race drivers in the framework of the ACO racetrack in cars tailored to their size. Soapboxes will also make a big return during a show on Friday and Saturday evening at the Raidillon borrowed from back to front. These fans of extreme sensations will share their passion with the public by showing unusual models, track introductions or even a construction workshop. Slot Racing will allow both small and tall to challenge themselves on a 30 metre track with 8 parallel tracks with reduced-size models of the Ford GT40, Jaguar Type E, Chevrolet Corvette and Austin Healey 3000.
In your grand tour as owner, be sure to visit, beside the Endurance paddocks, the village dedicated to the passion for motor cars which will be, naturally, one of the attractions of the Spa Classic. The world of automobiles in all its forms: literature, artists and all types of accessory.
Also noteworthy, wander down to the paddocks so you will be able to see the hybrid Belgian car the Imperia GP, which will make its first track laps this weekend.
Finally, on the occasion of the Spa Classic, there will be a memorial stone unveiled to the memory of Jean Sawters, the founder of, amongst other things, the famous Francorchamps stables. More about this later!
