NewsMore than 60 drivers will spend all week dreaming of victory... OK it’s true that Audi already knows all the little secrets about paths of glory and has learned to manage 24 hours of racing. It would be absurd to play on their knowledge for the Audi Sport Team WRT of Vincent Vosse, the Audi Sport Team Phoenix or even United Autosports. More than ever, this 2012 edition of the Total 24 Hours of Spa promises to be wide open with the BMW clans and their Z4s; Mercedes with its SLS AMG GT3s; the 997 GT3s R of Porsche or even the Italia 458 of Ferrari… who want to break the Ingolstadt House habits. The R8 LMS Ultras are going to find the smart set in the other corner of the ring. A quick glance at the line-up of contestants, http://blancpain-endurance-series.com/results.php will give you a good idea of who will be in this famous pack of twenty candidates seeking victory. With a minimum of 3 drivers per car, there will be more than 60 competitors, who will dream of glory for a week. Amongst them, our representatives will have some ambitions to assert, notably, Bas Leinders and Maxime Martin (associated with Markkus Palttala, the Finn from Eupen,) who are at the head of the Blancpain Endurance Series championship in the GT3 Pro Cup category. And all that in a Belgian Marc VDS team car! Let's dream! Especially since the star competition of this championship has the privilege of carrying off double points. So, there will be some jostling going on. For these gentlemen, the first trial of fire will certainly take place on Thursday during the various qualifying rounds, but it's clear no one will want to miss the innovation of these 24 Hours: the super pole on Friday. As a reminder, the 20 top contestants from Thursday's qualifiers will attempt in two timed laps to get themselves first place on the starting grid. Note the small change in timetabling; this super pole will now start at 3.35pm. A little reminder not to be late returning to Francorchamps on Saturday morning as the show starts early in the morning with the Asia Series (single-seaters) at 9.55am, followed by the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, of the British F3 International Series and at 1.15pm, a 30 minute race of the BRCC Belgian championship that will no longer be presented. The Belgian version of the Touring -GT championship goes off with around forty cars. Could we wish for anything better as a curtain raiser?
