Construction works on the Endurance grandstand and terraces have begun at the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps

After an exceptional year in terms of attendence at races and sporting events, the general public remains the centre of attention at the Circuit. With this in mind a new phase of works has started so that high quality infrastructure and facilities can be offered to our spectators, completing those works that took place last year.

The track season had not yet closed when the works began on 10 October on the construction of the new grandstand and terraces opposite the Endurance  pits, along the section of track that links La Source to Eau Rouge.

The grandstand will comprise 4,104 places et 40 fold-up seats for the PRM zone with a panoramic view over La Source, the Endurance area and Raidillon. The terraces will offer 3139 seats with landscape integration and respect for the  natural slope of the terrain. Finally, a large adaptable box in two distinct spaces will also be present within the stands. The grandstands and terraces could accommodate 3700 people up to this, so from now on there will be almost double those seats available to the public.

Works will be finished by mid-April 2023, bringing the total seating capacity in the grandstands and on the terraces around the track to 16,000 seated places (apart from the boxes and the Rallycross stadium).

With the works to be completed during the winter break of 2022-2023, the Circuit continues its momentum in regards to keeping its facility at the top of capacity and at a global level of excellence. Arrangements or layouts in the paddocks are also part of the investments needed to host our event and sporting competitionorganisers in optimal conditions.”

In fact, other works are already underway that aim to ensure conservation of the facility and more specifically in regards to replacing the Rohon culvert in the upper part of the paddocks.

The Rohon is a 3rd category water course with its headwaters near the Ster zoning. It runs mainly above ground until near the La Source corner when it is culverted before discharging into the water course of Eau Rouge on the lower part of the paddocks.

Following recurrent episodes of extremely heavy rainfall over the last few years and damage caused on the track and in the paddocks, works were necessary to safeguard the Circuit’s infrastructure.

As the culverted part of the Rohon waterway was not uniform in terms of section, slope or direction of flow, these works consist of standardising the culverting, and allowing it absorb a more significant flow (based on extremely heavy rainfall) in order to minimise risk as much as possible.
