12 & 13 March: The Association « Les Non-Voyants et leurs Drôles de Machines ». (NVDM) will be on the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps.

It has now become a tradition for the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps to welcome the NVDM « Les Non-Voyants et leurs Drôles de Machines ».

Association at the start of the season, but this time the Association has decided to go further by involving the Circuit in the day of driving it organises for visually-impaired people so they can drive a learner-driver car alongside an instructor on the most beautiful track in the world. The association’s leitmotif is the Integration and self-confidence of visually-impaired people and this year we’re adding a new dimension of awareness.

On 12 March, the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps staff, including its CEO, have also been invited by the NVDA association to drive in a different way on the circuit, just like association members, i.e. without seeing the track, and guided solely by an instructor’s voice.

Amaury Bertholomé, CEO: “As we are committed to a new strategy of opening up the circuit that clearly includes numerous actions in regards to Corporate Social Responsibility, we have great pleasure in restaging these days of circuit access for people who are visually impaired and, together with Mr Costermans, we’re setting up this day of awareness that will be a moment of encounter between visually-impaired people and members of the circuit team. Circuit staff have responded with great interest to being invited to this morning where they will become more aware of the situation of people with a visual impairment. It will undoubtedly be a ground-breaking discovery of our working instrument for everyone and a team-building occasion oriented towards trust and empathy.”

Luc Costermans, member of the Association: “On the occasion of the annual invitation from the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps management, the members of the NVDM « Les Non-Voyants et leurs Drôles de Machines » are very happy to be back on the track and able to have site staff discover their discipline, i.e. to be able to drive when blindfolded. A complicated challenge for them, but we’re quite certain that experiencing the track in another way will remain a highlight of their professional career. When it comes to surrendering themselves completely and implicitly putting their trust in the person beside them that they’ve known for only a few minutes, they will not emerge indifferent from this complicated exercise. Mutual trust is the key word of our special training sessions.”

On 13 March 11 members of the association will take the wheel, also alongside an instructor from the BARA  driving school of Fontaine l'Évêque. A real challenge for these people.

This wonderful idea is an opportunity to regain self-confidence and to feel part of society!
