Spa Speedweek to thrill the crowds one week before the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa
Free entry and open paddock from Friday 20 June to Sunday 22 June
Packed programme of 16 races includes British GT and top French series
Do you love motorsport? Can’t wait for the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa? SRO Motorsports Group has a solution: Spa Speedweek, which takes place between Friday 20 and Sunday 22 June. The event is completely free to the public, including access to the spectator areas and the paddock. It's the perfect warm-up for racing fans, with quality series and a diverse programme; it's also an ideal opportunity to introduce your family or friends to top-level motorsport.
Between Saturday 21 June at 10:20 and Sunday 22 June at 17:55, no fewer than 16 races will be staged at the Ardennes venue. With British GT, spectators can see GT3 cars on track before the first CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa sessions begin. Notably, some of the teams competing the following week will also be in action, including Barwell Motorsport (Lamborghini), 2 Seas Motorsport (Mercedes-AMG), Optimum Motorsport (McLaren), and Beechdean Motorsport (Aston Martin). British GT’s only overseas race begins at 12:30 on Sunday, lasts three hours, and features a 25-car multi-class entry comprising 14 GT3s and 11 GT4s.
Since 2017, GT4 cars have also competed in the FFSA French GT Championship. Like its British counterpart, the series will stage its only ‘away day’ of the season when it races in the Ardennes. It’s currently in the midst of a major revival, notably through the simplification of its class structure, with crews now entered in either Pro-Am or the Am Cup. What’s more, FFSA GT has strengthened its commitment to young talent by introducing the SRO GT Academy. This new initiative sees drivers under 30 competing for a €150,000 prize that will help them to move up to GT World Challenge powered by AWS in 2026, while also benefitting from the support of SRO and the FFSA Academy to aid their development. The entry list includes three Belgians: Lorens Lecertua, Stéphane Lémeret, and Lucas Cartelle.
SRO Motorsports Group has demonstrated its commitment to creating a true racing pyramid by organising the FFSA French Touring Championship. More than 40 cars are expected for no fewer than four races. Variety is key, with different classes ranging from TCR to TCA Light, GT Light, TC, and TCA. The series provides competition at every level, with young drivers and highly experienced amateurs making up the grid. Belgian fans can follow the progress of Giovanni Scamardi, Martin Scarnière, who will hope to use their local knowledge and shine on home soil.
Many of the entrants for the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa have previously competed in the French Formula 4 Championship. Undoubtedly the most affordable single-seater platform recognised by the FIA, this series has produced Formula 1 drivers (including Pierre Gasly and Isack Hadjar), as well as numerous GT stars. Once again, all three races will be worth watching. Keep a note of the names running at the front – you’re likely to hear more about them in the coming years!
The drivers contesting Porsche Carrera Cup France should also be familiar. The German manufacturer's one-make championship is renowned for uncovering young talents, some of whom progress to become official Porsche drivers, and you'll also see several graduates competing when the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa begins on Saturday 28 June. On the Belgian side, Benjamin Paque will be the man to watch.
Finally, the Mitjet 2L Trophy is a French series which, with its distinctive design (a tubular chassis and polyester bodywork) can also be an important step at the beginning of a career. All competing cars are identical, so expect plenty of overtaking across the four races that take place during Spa Speedweek from Friday 20 June to Sunday 22 June.
